CCISD has a reputation for excellence, offering a strong core curriculum enriched by the creative instruction of talented and skilled teachers. The district has a strong commitment to working with local institutions of higher education by providing dual credit courses that provided not only high school credit but also college credit.
The CCISD received a “Recognized District” rating the first year that the Texas Education Agency awarded ratings in 1998. The “Recognized District” rating earned in the years 1998-2004 and again in 2008, distinguishes CCISD as one of the best in the State of Texas.

CHARACTER COUNTS is CCISD’s character education program and is integrated throughout district schools, businesses and government. The six pillars are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. As a CHARACTER COUNTS community, CCISD believes that these qualities need to be modeled for our students continually by everyone and integrated into everything we do.
CCISD serves over 7,900 students of whom 800 are three and four year old Pre-Kindergarten students. Currently, there are ten campuses in the district. The six elementary schools serve pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. The two junior high schools have sixth through eighth grade. Copperas Cove High School and the Avenue E Alternative Learning Center complete the educational package. Cove Christian School and Early Learning Center, an interdenominational outreach of the First Assembly of God Church, Copperas Cove, serves grades K2 through 8th grade. Cove Christian School uses the A Beka curriculum for all academic subjects in all grades.
Central Texas College is a public, two-year community college, with its central campus located between Killeen and Copperas Cove, just off Highway 190, adjacent to Fort Hood. CTC offers over 100 associate degrees and certificates of completion in academic, professional and vocational/technical fields. The college offers a wide variety of courses, from agriculture to criminal justice, drama to nursing, and business administration to telecommunications. The college caters to the needs of both full-time and part-time students by offering daytime, evening, and online courses. Many programs are short-term and designed to focus on and strengthen each student's job skills to they may move directly into better-paying jobs. Non-credit and continuing education courses are offered on a regular basis.
CTC is a member of the Servicemembers Opportunities College (SOC.) This guarantees that those in the military who complete at least 25% of their coursework in residence at CTC can continue to work on their degrees at other institutions of higher learning and receive a degree from CTC when all credit requirements have been satisfied. It is particularly beneficial due to frequent military transfers, and CTC remains the top institution in the world in SOC agreements.
The Tarleton University System Center in Killeen is a one-of-a-kind, upper-level institution offering bachelor's and master's degrees to those who enter at the junior level.
Tarleton - Central Texas has a diverse student population: 75% of students are active duty military who are fulfilling increasing educational requiremnts of career soldiers. As a result, Tarleton-Central Texas offers evening and weekend classes to accommodate students who work during the day.
Advisors are available to assist with financial aid, degree plans, and career planning during evening hours, as well.
